- On the new Mac,
- Open Migration Assistant, located in the Utilities folder of the Applications folder.
- Click continue.
- When prompted to indicate how you would like to transfer your information, select the Transfer from a Mac, Time Machine, or startup disk option.
- Click continue.
- On the old Mac,
- Open Migration Assistant.
- Click continue.
- When prompted to indicate how you want to transfer your information, select the Transfer to another Mac option.
- Click continue.
- On the new Mac,
- Click the appropriate icon when prompted to select a Mac, Time Machine backup, or other startup disk,
- Click continue. You may see a security code.
- On the old Mac,
- If you see a security code, make sure it's the same code as on the new Mac.
- Click continue
- Step 5. On the new Mac:
- You should see a list of backups by date and time. Choose the backup that you want to use.
- Click continue.
- Select the information to transfer.
- Click continue to start the transfer.If you have a lot of content, the transfer might take several hours to finish.
- After Migration Assistant is done, log in to the migrated account on the new Mac to see its files.
